英國國會下議院選舉7日投票，投票結束後不久發布的出口民調結果顯示，保守黨表現優於選前預期，將能在全院650席中贏得316席，繼續穩居最大黨，比上一屆還多了9席，逼近組成多數政府所需的326席。最大反對黨工黨則只拿到239席。

這個結果與先前相差甚小的民調結果有不小出入。保守黨黨鞭戈夫（Michael Gove）與倫敦市長強森（Boris Johnson）都表示，保守黨贏得「明顯的勝利」，首相卡麥隆（David Cameron）會再次組成一個「有力且穩定」的聯合政府，邁入下一個5年任期。

現為國會第3大黨、與保守黨共組聯合政府的自由民主黨慘敗，預計只贏得10席（現為57席），但已足以讓保守黨過半。保守黨另一個可能的合作對象是北愛爾蘭的民主統一黨（DUP）。

蘇格蘭民族黨（SNP）將贏得蘇格蘭59席中的58個席次，威爾斯黨（Plaid Cymru）佔4席，英國獨立黨（UKIP）2席，綠黨亦為2席。SNP在本屆國會僅佔6席，新增的席次絕大部份來自工黨，因此反而有助於保守黨繼續執政。

英國上一次大選投票日（2010年5月6日）的出口民調相當準確。不過SNP黨魁史特金（Nicola Sturgeon）對今年這份民調抱持懷疑，認為SNP應不太可能贏得58席之多。

SNP去年9月以公投推動蘇格蘭獨立功敗垂成，但是今年憑藉黨魁史特金的個人魅力，可望一舉成為英國第三大黨。在財經與社會政策方面，SNP與工黨同屬左派，未來將對保守黨聯合政府形成制衡。SNP與工黨也強烈反對英國脫離歐盟，保守黨則承諾一旦勝選，將在2017年底之前舉行公投，決定英國是否續留歐盟。
